Description

Pustular acne looks like a classic pimple -- a red, inflamed bump topped with a visible white or yellow center filled with pus. It develops when a papule progresses further, as the immune system sends white blood cells to fight the bacteria trapped in the clogged pore.

Causes

Similar to papules, but the inflammation is accompanied by a buildup of white blood cells (pus) at the surface.

Prevention

Maintain a consistent acne routine and avoid picking at papules.

Treatment Options

Pimple patches (hydrocolloid), benzoyl peroxide, and spot treatments.

Myths vs. Facts

Myth: Pustules are 'ready to pop'. Fact: Popping them damages surrounding tissue. Pimple patches safely absorb the fluid.

When to See a Dermatologist

If you experience frequent pustules that scar, or if they are concentrated around the jawline (hormonal).
